Calin's Journey
Calin Scorby was diagnosed in utero with a rare genetic order called Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), is a rare genetic disease that causes non-cancerous (benign) tumors to grow in the brain and several areas of the body, including the spinal cord, nerves, eyes, lung, heart, kidneys, and skin. Calin has numerous tubers in his brain. Which caused him to have around 40 seizures a day. To help with this, Calin has undergone 8 brain surgeries and takes numerous medications. Calin now only has around 1-2 seizures per year.
Tuberous Sclerosis Complex is also commonly paired with Poly Cystic Kidney Disease. Calin suffers from this as well. It causes high blood pressure for which Calin takes numerous medications. At the rate the cysts on Calin's kidneys are growing. It is estimated he will need a kidney transplant around the age of 16.
Tuberous Sclerosis Complex is also the #1 genetic cause for autism. Calin was diagnosed at age 2 with autism and is non verbal.
Calin goes to Stanford Children's Hospital (Lucille Packard Hospital) every 2 months for regular EEG's and MRI's.
Despite these hurdles, Calin confronts each day with joy and resilience, lighting up every room he enters with his infectious smile.Calin is the happiest little daddies boy in the world. He loves music, dancing, and flipping through books.

Founded by Calin's loving father, Adam Scorby, Under Calin's Wing seeks to extend support and encouragement to other families navigating similar paths as Calin. As a non-profit charity, we exist to assist, inspire, and uplift children living with autism, epilepsy, and other brain disorders. We hope to help children and families in their greatest time of need.
